RMG - "Salesian Education": an open window on the Salesian educational world

17 November 2016

(ANS - Rome) - The Office of School and Vocational Training of the Department for Youth Ministry at the Salesian Generalate in Rome has opened a corporate website - www.salesianeducation.com - offering detailed information about Salesian schools and centres for vocational training in the 132 countries where the Salesians are present. The site is presented as a meeting place to allow communication and mutual understanding and to facilitate joint projects with other Salesian centres.

The site is available in five languages and will be updated by each educational centre, which has received a user name and password. It contains a section for testimonials, a wide possibility of research and an area dedicated to virtual communities for regions, coordinated by the head of the web page, Fr Miguel Ángel García Morcuende.

The site gives information on 3643 schools, with 940,000 students and 68,000 teachers or instructors; 826 vocational training centres, with 200,300 students and 15,000 teachers or instructors; 280 boarding schools, 163 student residences and many other educational services.

The text and graphical information show how the Salesians remain faithful to the educational and evangelizing project of Don Bosco and renew their focus on the needs of children, adolescents and young people, who will be the "good Christians and honest citizens" of tomorrow.

The Salesians are aware that their task is to announce, to sow and encourage in the most important stages in the life of the young, and they share this responsibility with many lay collaborators in the mission. These data are an open window on the hope that what has been sown will bear fruit in the best possible way in the future of the peoples of the world. This is why the Sons of Don Bosco maintain fidelity and hope in this delicate mission in society and in many parts of the world.

"Perhaps the biggest challenge of a web page is the recognition of how the data can be of immense value in educating," wrote one of the leading experts in Web Analysis. This new Youth Ministry page, coming directly from the Office of School and Professional training, rooted in the Web 2.0 or social Web, will allow all the thousands and thousands of users to share, create and produce all information and all contents of this impressive worldwide network: www.salesianeducation.com
