RMG - "My dear young people, have you met the gaze of the Lord Jesus?"

30 January 2017

(ANS - Rome) - "My dear young people, I invite you to be courageous in your life. I urge you to have the strength to go against the current when the call to be true to yourself and to Jesus resonates persistently deep in your heart " The message that Fr Ángel Fernández Artime sends to young people, on the occasion of the Feast of Don Bosco, is a message of gratitude, hope and commitment, which - precisely in the manner of Don Bosco - urges the young to follow Jesus in an authentic way.

As every year, for the Feast of the Saint of Youth, the Rector Major, who is the successor of Don Bosco, has sent a letter to the young people of the 5 continents.

Fr Á.F. Artime’s letter is in full harmony with what Pope Francis has called for on a number of occasions: "Dear young people, I have full confidence in you and pray for you. Have the courage to swim against the tide." Both the Pope and the Rector Major are aware that "today the world needs you. It is in need of the great ideals that are typical of youth and your youthful dreams."

To make contact with the young people all over the world who enjoy digital playgrounds, the letter is accompanied by a video message in which Fr Á.F. Artime reiterates the same message in a more familiar and direct form.

"Jesus asks something good and great of each one of you. I invite you to be capable of commitment and generosity until it hurts. In the words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now a saint: 'To love and serve until it hurts' " said the Rector Major.

The appeal ends with the exhortation to accompany on their journey of faith and human development all those young people  who are already tired and disappointed, who do not have dreams and hopes and who need the witness of their peers.

The letter of the Rector Major is available on the sdb.org site, while the video message is on the ANSChannel.
