Paraguay - Ninety Salesians gather for the Team Visit with the Rector Major

21 March 2017

(ANS - Ypacaraí) - The House of the Salesian Family in the city of Ypacaraí is to host a major international meeting of the Salesian Congregation, called the "Team Visit". The meeting will be chaired by the Rector Major who arrived yesterday, 20 March, and will be attended by six other General Council members and 90 Salesians from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

The Team Visit is an exercise of animation by the Rector Major and the General Council. Through it, the members of the General Council of the Salesian Congregation assess the progress in the various Salesian regions and ensure convergence and unity while respecting the differences. This is the third of seven Team Visits in the worldwide programme.

The Team Visit is traditionally attended by the Rector Major, his Vicar, the Councillors of Sector and the Regional Councillor of the particular region. They meet with the superiors of the different Salesian provinces, etc. in each region, members of their Provincial Councils, the people in charge of offices of particular importance in the Salesian region and also persons outside the Congregation who can offer authoritative views and contributions.

The Team Visit to the American Southern Cone Region opens today, 21 March and ends on Friday 24 March.  Ninety-seven Salesian will participate - 90 from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay – the countries that, together with Paraguay, make up the American Southern Cone Region – plus the members of the General Council.

The Team Visit which opens today is taking place six years after the previous Visit to the region (Santiago, Chile, in 2011), and is significantly positioned in the middle of the six-year period of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime.

The purpose of Visit is in the first place to assess the level of implementation of the guidelines of the 27th General Chapter, and to reflect on the Salesian statistics, so to outline the future paths for the Salesian Mission for young people in each region.

After careful observation and meetings with the various teams, the Rector Major, with his councillors, will release the concluding observations.
