28 April 2017

(ANS - Rome) -  The Salesian Communication Days at the Salesian Pontifical University will begin this afternoon, Friday 28 April, and will continue tomorrow. About 160 young people in initial formation for the Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and other members of the Salesian Family will study the Pope's message for the 51st World Social Communications Day.

The event, now in its sixth year, is inspired by the Pope's Message. It includes meetings with experts, experiential insights, workshops, moments of encounter and prayer.

The initiative was originally conceived for young Salesians and young Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. Since last year it has opened up to other groups of the Salesian Family and other religious and lay faithful in a spirit of ecclesial life and sharing. The invitation is addressed to all those who, during their formation, regard communication as an important field of pastoral action and, above all, for formation for today's religious.

The Salesian Communication Days are the result of collaboration between the Departments of Social Communication and Formation of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences of the Pontifical Salesian University and the Pontifical Faculty of Sciences of Education at Auxilium in Rome.

On Friday 28 April, there will be two sessions:  first a round table discussion from 16:00 to 17:30 (GMT+2), which can be seen live on the YouTube channel and from the Twitter profile of the Faculty of Science Of Social Communication (@FSC_unisal). It will analyse several topics: analysis of the lack of hope and confidence in the current socio-cultural context and indications for a positive action of education (Fabio Pasqualetti, SDB); the virtue of Hope and its decline in everyday life as a personal attitude and message to be communicated (Francesco Occhetta, SJ); the experience of a professional engaged in the world of communication-information (Roberta Gisotti, journalist of Vatican Radio).

Parallel sessions will help participants to choose between different experiences to learn how to communicate hope and confidence in different contexts and situations: in hospital wards, in foster families caring for minors, in the vocations ministry of Fr Fabio Rosini, in religious communities, in the Italian Radio and Television Listeners’ Association, in prison chaplaincy and in formation for consecrated religious life.

On Saturday,  there will be active media analysis workshops (cinema, political communication and music) and various other workshops (social networks and digital graphics).
