(ANS - Catemu) - Catemu is a municipality belonging to the Province of San Felipe de Aconcagua in the Valparaíso region. The "beautiful valley", as this beautiful Chilean city is called, offers a mild climate, numerous agricultural, mining and industrial activities and a complete system of canals that properly irrigate all the cultivated areas. Here, the Salesians offer young people a training program thanks to the well-known and much-appreciated Huidobro Foundation Agricultural School.

On Tuesday, June 20, the first meeting of the agricultural schools in the Valparaíso region was held. It was organized by the Salesian Agricultural School of Catemu, with Mr. Ricardo Astorga, member of the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Chile.

The board members of the following schools participated: San Felipe Agricultural School, “Assunta Pallota” School of Curimón, “Pascual Baburizza” Agricultural Institute of Los Andes, “Christa Mock” Agricultural School of Nogales, "Obispo Rafael Lira Infante" Agricultural Lyceum of La Cruz, Agricultural Lyceum of Quillota, “Cordillera" Lyceum of Chincolco and the Salesian Agricultural School of Catemu.

The activities started with the traditional Salesian "Good morning" during which all participants were invited to continue collaborating and exchanging their experiences.

Mr. Astorga then emphasized that these meetings "are strengthening the autonomy of our students, which in the future shall lead to improving productivity, quality and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector."

At the end of the various presentations, the technical manager at Catemu's Salesian Agricultural School, Adam Ponce Araya, presented a project of a seminar for the students of agricultural schools in the region dealing with the cultivation and care of the avocado.

During the meeting, representatives of the 8 agricultural schools received from the hands of some students the book of Teresio Bosco "San Giovanni Bosco, a priest's story", so that the various school directors could come to understand and share the Salesian charism.

The day ended with a visit to the Campus of the Salesian Agricultural School where students explained the operations of its canteen and the reality of the institute's didactic farm via a number of examples and demonstrations.
