(ANS – Makati City) – The Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati City hosted the launch of “Don Bosco – One TVET”, the organization that will coordinate the activities of the Technical and Vocational Education & Training of the Salesians of the two Philippine Provinces, North (FIN) and South (FIS). The event took place August 9 at the Braga Building. Fr Jose Dindo S. Vitug, SDB, Executive Director of the new institution, said in his opening remarks that the founding of “Don Bosco – One-TVET” shall help raise and improve the qualitative standard of all the Don Bosco technical and vocational educational and training centers in the Philippines.

Fr. Ronald Guiao, TVET – FIS Director, said that the idea of uniting the forces of the two Salesian Provinces of North and South gained momentum in 2012 and progressed year after year until it finally took shape via the new Don Bosco – TVET, which aims to address and right the issue of the social and economic exclusion of the country's marginalized youth.

In his keynote speech, the ceremony's special guest, Dr. Andree Buhl, Commercial Consultant of the German Embassy in the Philippines, stated that education in Germany not only occurs through secondary schools or universities, but also through vocational education. “We have many excellent universities and engineers, but we also have many skilled and qualified workers. Our country considers both systems of education of equal importance, but at times, vocational training is even more important than university education.”

The event was attended by distinguished guests, sponsors and benefactors from different business sectors who, in one way or another, have provided support to youngsters by offering technical and vocational training; with the new "Don Bosco - One TVET", of course, the Salesians intend to engage and increase their support to disadvantaged young people.

The inauguration proceeded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the blessings of the new institute.
