RMG – AustraLasia News 20th Birthday!

07 November 2017

(ANS – Rome) – The “Email news-service AustraLasia” was born exactly twenty years ago, November 7, 1997, during the Regional meeting of EAO Provincials and Soc. Com. Delegates with Fr Martinelli, General Councilor for SC and Salesian Family, and it all began with a small collection of email addresses, and invitations to share. From 1997 until November 2017, not less than 4,500 news items have been shared among EAO Salesian Family members.

During the forthcoming EAO regional meeting of Social Communication Delegates, November 10-14, there will also be the SC General Councilor, Fr Filiberto Gonzalez, and 20 provincial SDB delegates and lay mission partners to celebrate. For the 20th Anniversary of the regional news service - ministry of communion, AustraLasia & Boscolink - 200 Certificates of Appreciation to all SDB and Salesian Family members who supported and contributed over the years will be distributed!

On various occasions, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, expressed his appreciation on the growth in communion among the provinces of the EAO region. “It is highly valued, the effort that the EAO Region is making in print and video translations. These are modes of communication that bring the reality of the Congregation and the Rector Major closer to the brothers, allowing us to grow in a sense of belonging and participation. Likewise, continue to push 'AustraLasia - Don Bosco Link', which unites and makes the Congregation visible in the Region...” (EAO Team Visit 2017, Hua Hin).

Fr John Baptist, one of the translators of AustraLasia, shares his conviction: "Happy to celebrate the 20th Birthday! I will continue to try my best to spread Salesian charism to everyone, especially to the young. From the time I began posting the Salesian news on Facebook, many readers contact the news, as do Salesian Cooperators and Don Bosco Past Pupils."

Since the launch of the new BOSCOLINK website on Feb 3, 2015, more than 1,550 news items have been shared. The daily English-language news service is also transmitted by the Salesian News Agency in 7 languages, and many news items are translated into Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese.

“A thanks and congratulations to all who have contributed over the past 20 years to this communion tool and EAO regional 'digital-sharing playground' with its news, text and photos, with translations, and the simply passing on of the good news to other Salesian family members. The best way to celebrate is simply to contribute by writing to This email address is being protected from spambots.
