(ANS - Rome) - Elaborated during the last Days of Spirituality of the Salesian Family, the "Decalogue of the Salesian Accompanyer" constituted a sort of gift of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians to the Rector Major in giving thanks for the message of the 2018 Strenna. It, however, is above all the expression of the desire of the Salesian Family members to become true and effective companions of the young, why the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, assured everyone right from the very start of his desire to share it in every Salesian presence and community. For this reason, we are re-publishing it today.

The Salesian Accompanyer:

  • Accompanies the young in this “favorable time” in vocational discernment by experiencing in their turn the beauty of allowing themselves to be accompanied.
  • Helps the young, with patience and loving-kindness, to discover that he or she is a gift and capable of making the the great life plan awaiting him or her become a reality through listening to God’s voice.
  • Fosters a spiritual climate through a humble and joyful presence and witness.
  • Offers everyone the opportunity to be accompanied by taking the first step, with empathetic listening, and valuing individuality, excluding no one.
  • Proposes a Spirituality with a unified vision by living an authentic Christ-like presence.
  • Witnesses to joy by loving the young and making them feel the Love of God.
  • Experiences the logic of the “Come and See” through a silent and coherent witness which manifests the presence of the Risen One and invites the young to take up their journey.
  • Lives the communal dimension by creating a home which welcomes by means of their gaze, “knowing how to be”, being open to the world, and fullness of life.
  • Dedicates time to personal encounters by listening with the Heart of Christ the Good Shepherd.
  • Looks at life with trust and hope, confiding themselves to the Lord, walking next to the young, and reawakening in them the desire to have an encounter with Him.
