Italy - Form oneself so words and gestures are true, authentic, reliable: Salesian Communication Days 2018

23 April 2018

(ANS - Rome) - The appointment with the "Salesian Communication Days" is renewed at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome on April 27 and 28: a formation meeting based on the Pope's message for the 52nd anniversary World Communications Day: "Truth will make you free (Jn 8:32). Fake news and peace journalism." The seminar will offer participants talks by experts, experiential insights, workshops, moments of meeting and prayer.

Originally conceived for young Salesians and the young Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), the initiative has opened up in recent years to include other groups of the Salesian Family and to other religious and lay groups in a spirit of life and ecclesial sharing. The invitation is addressed to all those who, involved in formation, consider communication an important field of pastoral action and, above all, of formation for today's religious.

The Salesian Communication Days are the result of a synergy between the dicasteries and departments for Social Communication and Formation of the Salesians and the FMA, the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences of the Salesian Pontifical University, and the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences "Auxilium" of Rome.

Friday, 27 April, features two events: a round table, animated by the teachers of UPS Marco Panero, SDB, and Paola Springhetti; and then parallel sessions, led by experts, which will help participants to deal with different areas and themes in which words and gestures may convey fake news or rather foster acts of peace:

  • "Wars and Fake news" (Prof. Fabio Pasqualetti, SDB);
  • "Misinformation: what impact on the citizen's choices?" (Prof. Vittorio Sammarco);
  • "Education towards an active citizenship" (Giovanni D'Andrea, SDB);
  • "Cyberbullying: how to prevent and how to orientate" (Prof. Alessandro Ricci);
  • "Social advertising and fundraising between ethics, information and social media" (Prof. Simonetta Blasi);
  • "Risks and potential of Internet use. Reflections and ideas in the context of formation "(Prof. Massimo Vasale).

On Saturday 28, participants may join workshops on media analysis (cinema, information and fake news, and fake news and peace journalism) and seminars (comics, social life and computer graphics) to learn to be communicators who are true, authentic, reliable.

The round table on Friday 27 can be seen live on the FSC YouTube channel, from 16:00 to 17:30 (UTC + 2), and by monitoring the hashtag: #GMCS2018
