Spain - "Tech Don Bosco" starts up, a Salesian reality fostering Vocational Training

12 December 2018

(ANS - Madrid) - The Salesians of Spain have a new structure to promote Vocational Training, the flagship of their educational work. The "Tech Don Bosco" Foundation was set up last December 11, before a notary, to start providing a series of services that will help young people in formation, as well as unemployed, workers, businesses and Salesian VTC.

"Tech Don Bosco" takes over from the Salesian Association of Technology and Innovation (ASTI), and is part of a broader network of similar bodies of the Congregation worldwide, such as "Tech Don Bosco Africa" or "Tech Don Bosco Asia."

The first line of action of the new foundation is to identify the formation needs of students and teachers of Salesian VTCs in relation to the needs of companies. In this way, students will be able to enter the labor market with better technical qualifications and skills.

Always with a view to favoring the job placement of students, projects for grants for employment between the various centers and other Salesian institutions will also be coordinated. In this way a vocational training student will be able to access different job offers, in addition to those of his center of reference. Thanks to initiatives of this kind being promoted by the Salesians, thousands of young people have, in the past, already obtained their first jobs.

Furthermore, schools and companies will work together to set up specialization courses for students, to enhance the international character of the centers and to promote training courses for workers and the unemployed.

In short, all these actions will also contribute to the improvement and planning of Salesian Vocational Training, a truly great specialty of the Salesian Congregation in the very field of education ever since its foundation, more than 150 years ago.

In the Salesian Province of "St James Major", one of the two Salesian Provinces in Spain and the "Tech Don Bosco" Foundation's sphere of activity, there are 21 Salesian VTCs, serving around 8,500 students and 900 teachers.
