Chile - "Technologies with social impact" rewards "Fundación Don Bosco" for project "Road Circuit Register"

06 February 2019

(ANS - Santiago) - There is no longer any doubt that the adoption of digital technologies is a phenomenon in constant growth, which over time covers increasingly more layers and social areas. For this reason, companies, institutions and agencies are investing more and more capital to enhance and optimize their resources through technology. The "Fundación País Digital" of Microsoft Chile and "DonaTec" (an online donation program for the NGO "CDI Chile") have come together to give prominence to those non-profit Chilean organizations which, through the use of technology, are positively influencing their communities. As is the case with the "Fundación Don Bosco".

"Registro Circuito de Calle" (Register of Streets Circuit), is the digital app developed by the "Fundación Don Bosco" which won the "Social impact technologies" award during a ceremony held at the Hotel Cumbres Lastarria, last January 29th. Forty-four organizations challenged each other and, together with the Salesian foundation, other educational institutions, firefighters, a charitable organization and an organization serving the sick were among the finalists.

Thanks to the "Registro Circuito de Calle" app, which makes use of the tools of Artificial Intelligence, "Fundación Don Bosco" can, in the field, record, via the information coming from mobile phones and "geo-referencing", the actions carried out by street children, locate their transit circuits and their movements. In this way, the foundation's teams can find them more easily, identifying the territorial dynamics associated with their behaviors and their relationships, and allowing operators to plan intervention actions.

The project used "Power Apps" to develop the application, "Excel Online" to record and save data, "One Drive" and "Power Bi" for all the analysis and geo-referencing of the subjects and the "Team" software so the operators can use and share all the information in a collaborative way.

For the "Fundación Don Bosco", this award is a great acknowledgement. "There is not a computer engineer behind this project, but only us, self-taught people who, with pride, can give visibility to those who are 'invisible' for society."
