Brazil - 80 years of Salesian presence in Juazeiro do Norte

Juazeiro do Norte, Brazil - April 2019 - The Salesian mission in Juazeiro do Norte was started 80 years ago by Fr Antônio de Almeida Agra, SDB, which began with Fr Cícero Romão Batista's wish to locate “the holy work of the Salesians" in Juazeiro do Norte. As part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary, a round table was held on April 23. Various scholars spoke on the pastoral and historical aspects of the Salesian presence. On 24 April Fr Nivaldo Pessinatti, Superior of the Salesian Province of Brazil-Recife (BRE), presided over the Eucharistic celebration which was attended, in addition to the Salesian community, by various religious of the BRE Province and representatives of the whole Salesian center of Juazeiro do Norte. Some of them, at the end of the Mass, received recognition for having distinguished themselves in the various sectors of the Salesian work.
