21 April 2016

(ANS - Rome) - This year also, the theme of the Pope’s message for World Communications Day will be the topic of study and research for the members in formation of the Salesian Family. The Salesian Communication Days are scheduled to take place on 29 and 30 April at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome. They will involve listening, discussion and practice and are meant as a training opportunity for young religious and laity to be good communicators in a rapidly changing world.

The initiative is promoted by the Department for Social Communication of the Salesians and the Sector for Social Communication of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.  There will be active collaboration of the Faculty of Social Communication of the UPS and of the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences at Auxilium in Rome.

In this fifth course, in addition to the young Salesians and young Daughters of Mary Help of Christians there will also be some lay people from the movement Canção Nova, the association of Salesian Cooperators and some of the people responsible for initial formation in other religious orders. In total, the members in initial formation in the Salesian Family are expected to number around 180.

On 29 April, after the initial welcome, Fr Giulio Albanian, Director of "Peoples and Mission" and "The Golden Bridge", and Professor Rita Marchetti, professor at the University of Perugia, will present and develop the message of Pope Francis for the 50th World Communications Day: "Communication and mercy: a fruitful encounter."

The round table will be broadcast live streaming (15:45 to 18:00, GMT + 2) on fsc.unisal.it site, on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH2pXbt0UPo) and on Twitter @FSC_unisal following the hashtag #gmcs2016.

It will be followed by parallel sessions where participants will delve into the topic from different perspectives, thanks to the interventions of experts and operators in the area of communications and mercy:

  • Alessandra Morelli, (UNHCR)
  • Fr Giovanni Carpentieri, (Association FuoriDellaPorta NPO);
  • Donatella Parisi, (Astalli Centre, Rome);
  • Fr Spriano Alexander (Chaplain of Rebibbia prison, Rome);
  • Sr Gabriella Bottani, (TalitaKum).

The morning of April 30 will be dedicated to communication workshops, where, through media analysis, participants will gain skills of analysis and communication of mercy.

The book "Communication and mercy, a fruitful meeting," will be launched on one of the days. It is a collection of qualified contributions of the teachers of the Faculty of Social Communication Studies. For more information, write to: This email address is being protected from spambots.
