(ANS - Piura) - In 1859, when Don Bosco gathered the first group of young people to found the Salesian Congregation, he had an idea in his heart: the purpose and desire of this Congregation is "to promote and preserve the spirit of true charity which is required in the work of the oratories for abandoned and endangered youth." The first Salesians who arrived in Peru had this sole desire in their hearts: to establish oratories. In the department of Piura, the Salesians grew and created countless oratories. Today, to celebrate the feast of Don Bosco, they brought together hundreds of children and young people.

In a youthful atmosphere, full of joy and enthusiasm and animated by songs and choreography, the Salesian oratories "Don Bosco" of Tacala, "Domingo Savio" of Cossio del Pomar, "Juan Soñador" of Los Médanos and "María Ausiliatrice" of Piura, celebrated Don Bosco's birthday through the meeting of oratories; its theme, Strenna 2019: "Holiness for you, too."

Boisterously, the delegations entered the Don Bosco Salesian College and participated in the festive Eucharist presided by Fr Pedro Da Silva who, in his homily, recommended identifying "the love of God in the Salesian oratories". He then invited everyone to see in the animators "the hand of God that embraces us as true children with his infinite love and that, even if the social environment is adverse or proposes a life without God, we will find God in the oratories every Sunday."

Furthermore, football, volleyball and basketball tournaments were organized as part of this meeting of oratories where all the Oratorians, encouraged at all times by their respective supporters, celebrated the joy of the Salesian courtyard or playground, strengthening their friendship, all in a climate of communion and healthy competition.

At the end of the meeting a tribute to Don Bosco was prepared with the presentation of artistic performances. The participants committed themselves to meet as "Oratorian Family", as Don Bosco always wanted and knew how to pass on to Dominic Savio, exclaiming: "We make holiness consist in being always happy."

Don Bosco always sought two things: preparing young people for life and bringing them closer to the encounter with Jesus. Today, the challenge for the Rector Major, to live the Strenna, is that we make every home a school of life and holiness.
