Honduras - "Don Bosco invites us to dream." The story of Roger Nahum

28 April 2016

(ANS - Plan de San Antonio) - It is true that talking about dreams is to look back at the past and see your reflection in Don Bosco. The dreams of this boy of the Becchi have come true. And why should ours not come true? "We must never give up dreaming, it is a gateway to happiness." Roger Nahum Martinez Gonzales, has never given up on his dreams.

Who is Roger Nahum? He is a 21-year-old who lives with his parents Domingo and Macaria and their nine children in the village of Plan de San Antonio, Francisco Morazán Department.

“To reach the Salesian Vocational Training Centre in Tegucigalpa,” he says "I have to walk for three hours because my village is far from the city. I heard about the centre from Henry Amador, who studied at the centre, and from there he was helped to start a business where he works as an automobile mechanic."

"I get up at three in the morning to get ready and start the journey towards the centre. It costs me a bit of sacrifice, but all I have found in this Salesian house makes me forget the tiredness," he says.

"The first day we were called into a room and they said some very encouraging words. My teacher asked me what I wanted to learn. Right now I'm studying my second year of Automobile Mechanics. It is motivating to arrive in the morning and be greeted with “good morning!” I never dreamed of being able to follow English lessons, everything is very attractive. I also receive a Christian education, I participate in the Mass and in retreats and all I've received is quality.

There are so many good people who help us and motivate us. Last year I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship with which I have received my full uniform; this support inspires me to be a good mechanic. Now I have almost realized this first dream, even though Don Bosco always invites us to dream to achieve goals.  Already during the holidays I have had the opportunity to work in a laboratory."
