(ANS - Porto Alegre) - Don Bosco chose St. Francis de Sales as the patron of his Society not only because he was the saint of goodness, gentleness or patience. He also chose him because he was a born writer. St. Francis de Sales wanted to spread the Kingdom of God through the apostolate of the "good press", as part of a grand opportunity to do good.

The Salesian Bulletin stands out among the great works related to Don Bosco in the field of the “good press”, as it continues to do with its mission, and is a magazine published in over 130 countries of the world. Don Bosco, through its pages, wanted to spread all the good that the Salesians were doing in the nations they had joined as missionaries.

Today the great challenge is to make the Salesian Bulletin a vehicle for communication with digital language. In this sense, in August, the Salesian Bulletin of Brazil inaugurated its new portal, now also iaccessible through various digital platforms. A large investment has been made to make this possible. And, according to the Rector Major, it would have been a big mistake not to do so.

Of course, the work of updating will continue because one must always be "with Don Bosco and with the times." The Rector Major says that we must be open to the "means and technologies that are offered to us." We open ourselves to this world that is changing at a dizzying pace to be able to transmit and communicate, like Don Bosco, the good.

In August, the Salesian Family commemorates the birth of these two great saints: Don Bosco, on the 16th, and Saint Francis of Sales on the 21st. Several centuries separate them, but the same ideal unites them: love for God and the spread of the Kingdom of God and its values through the press. They were also great educators of their people and, in the case of Don Bosco, especially young people. They knew how to read the signs of the times and lived those times with immense courage, determination, sacrifice and hope. Don Bosco said that "education is something of the heart". And for Francis of Sales it was "speaking from heart to heart.

In his day, Don Bosco always published the stories of the missionaries in the Salesian Bulletin. And today his spiritual Sons continue this work and they do so by involving many young people and children in the mission, so that they may feel they too can contribute to bringing so many people who suffer that love of God that they have known through Salesian spirituality.
