One of the main tasks of the Provinces and volunteer leaders is "to take care of the formation and accompaniment of missionary volunteers, for whom a training plan is programmed."In fact, no volunteer can leave for their mission territory without adequate formation. As Pope Francis explained, there is a need for “lay people with a solid human and Christian formation, especially young men and women who have had a decisive personal encounter with Christ ... They are able to get their hands dirty and run risks, to announce Christ with their life and their words.”

The fundamental objective of the Summer School for Animators was to form young participants and give them a broader view of diversity, the protection of minors, youth leadership, citizen participation, gender equality and interculturality. Special attention was given to the transmission of the values of European and intercultural awareness so that they can share and pass it on to their local organizations, thus obtaining a multiplier effect; this, plus the empowerment of the participants to be aware leaders, more active citizens and actors and promoters of development.

Participants were able to take advantage of a wide variety of workshops and training sessions in an international and intercultural environment and in a non-formal educational context, following Don Bosco's pedagogical style, where the young person is the center and responsible for his or her own learning.

Through this international meeting, the Don Bosco Confederation also seeks to improve young people's employment opportunities, supporting the professional development of people working in the field of education and youth and giving due recognition to the skills acquired through volunteering.

The Summer School for Animators was a great opportunity to continue to improve the lives of young people, as well as to address their concerns, needs and expectations. It combined training for the development and improvement of young people's personal, interpersonal, intercultural and working skills.
