The Salesian community therefore considers this 2024 as the 'Year of Gratitude', in which it wants to celebrate and commemorate its centenary presence with a series of events. And as a starting date there could be nothing better than 8 January, the actual day of the death and the liturgical commemoration of the Slovakian Salesian Blessed Fr Titus Zeman.
Italy - Meeting of the young Volunteers of Don Bosco in Europe
Monday, 08 January 2024 00:00Rome, Italy – January 2024 - A meeting of the young Volunteers of Don Bosco (VDB) took place at the Istituto Maria SS. Bambina in Rome, at the Vatican From 29 December 2023 to 2 January 2024. The event was attended by 40 VDBs from different European countries: France, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Hungary and Italy. During the meeting, the participants shared their experiences of consecrated life in their groups and regions, and reflected on some topics of their life project, such as communion, secularity and spirituality. They experienced the transition to the new calendar year in an atmosphere of prayer and celebration. On January 1st, they participated in the solemn Eucharist celebrated in St Peter's Basilica with Pope Francis, and they very satisfactorily evaluated the opportunity to dialogue and learn together.

Malta - ECN Mission Animation Delegates Meet in Malta
Tuesday, 17 October 2023 00:00Sliema, Malta – October 2023 - From 12th - 15th October, the regional meeting of the Provincial Delegates for Mission Animation of the Cental-North European Region took place in Sliema, Malta. Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for the Missions, Fr Pavel Ženíšek, from the Mission Sector Team, delegates from Ireland, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the 3 Polish provinces (PLN, PLE, PLS), and Malta were present at the meeting. The meeting was a moment of sharing of information, experiences and praxis on various themes. Fr Alfred Maravilla, shared some information about the upcoming 150th anniversary celebrations of the first missionary expedition of the Salesian Congregation. Part of the celebrations will include a rethinking of the missionary work and spirit in today’s context. One interesting feature of the meeting was a reflective input from a member of the Missionary Society of St. Paul, which is a Religious Congregation founded in Malta, whose charism centres on Missions. His contribution was on evangelisation in Europe today and he based his reflections on those that of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. For this reflective session, the confreres in initial formation currently in Malta, joined the delegates. There was a fraternal and enriching dialogue during the session. The event concluded with a few cultural visits to Valletta, Imdina, and the grotto where St. Paul lived for 3 months when he was shipwrecked in Malta, on his way to Rome.
Spain – Connected lives thanks to the European "Erasmus+" programme

About 70 educational centres of the Salesians in Spain participate in projects under the European Erasmus+ Programme. Internationalisation is nothing new for most schools: exchanges, the implementation of bilingual teaching models, etc... are actions that have been carried out for several years.
Poland – 14th edition of the Festival of Youth Without Borders
Monday, 05 June 2023 00:00Różanystok, Poland – May 2023 - The 14th edition of the Festival of Youth Without Borders, organised by the Saint Stanislaus Kostka Province, Warsaw, Poland (PLE) and the Saint John Bosco Salesian Educational Centre in Różanystok has just ended. The festival took place from 29 to 31 May and its organisation was also supported by local authorities. The Różanystok festival has been organised for many years and has gained popularity not only within the country but also abroad. This year's Youth Without Borders Festival attracted around 300 participants, for three days of workshops, shows, performances and concerts. It is an innovative artistic effort, bringing together representatives from different cultural backgrounds. As usual, the audience had a lot of fun. The event brought together young people from different cities and countries under one common motto – “Without Borders” – so that they could, through art and play, share happiness and joy, get to know each other better, integrate and learn from each other. It was possible to attend several workshops every day, during the Festival at the end of which the participants showed what they had learned. Artists from Poland and other countries, including Chile, Brazil and the Czech Republic, were invited to the festival. Each artist was also involved as a leader of workshops for young people. Their task was not only to introduce themselves, but also to pass on their skills in different areas: singing, musical instruments, aerial acrobatics, performing arts, circus arts, theatre, beatboxing, breakdancing and capoeira, so as to promote the development of the participants and help them discover their skills and interests.
Czech Republic - Continental Conference of IUSs of Europe

Wednesday, 17 May 2023 00:00(ANS - Rome) - The beautiful and significant circumstance of the 70th anniversary of the Institute of Catechetics (ICA) of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome is definitely noteworthy. The seed sown so long ago has become a tree and continues to bear fruit. It was the foresight of Fr. Pietro Ricaldone, Rector Major and Don Bosco's IV successor, who wanted to establish, between 1953 and 1954, a proper School of Catechetics within the Higher Institute of Pedagogy of the Pontifical Salesian Athenaeum in Turin.
Czech Republic - Priestly ordination of Salesian Filip Mares
Wednesday, 10 May 2023 00:00Prague, Czech Republic - May 2023 - On May 1, Salesian Filip Mares was ordained a priest through the laying on of hands and consecratory prayer of Bishop Karel Herbst, SDB, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Prague. The event was attended by more than 70 Salesians, some who came from Turin, originally from four African countries, who studied with Filip Mares at the Turin-Crocetta Theological Studentate; others from Slovakia; members of the Salesian Cooperators and Volunteers of Don Bosco; and numerous faithful from around Prague and from around the country. Prior to the ordination, the Provincial meeting of the Bohemian Salesians was held, and after the celebration they celebrated with others in the courtyard of the Salesian presence in Prague-Kobylisy.
