Mass for Don Bosco's 205th birthday broadcast live
(Rome, August 3, 2020) - August 16 is always a special feast day for the Salesian Family: it is, in fact, the day on which the anniversary of Don Bosco's birth is celebrated. Also this year, which marks the saint's 205th birthday, a solemn Eucharistic concelebration is scheduled, which will also be visible online and which will be celebrated at the Basilica of Colle Don Bosco, in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, where the "Father and Teacher of Youth" was born.
The Mass will begin at 11:00 (UTC + 2) and will be presided over by the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime.
For all those who wish to attend, but cannot be physically present, the Eucharist will be broadcast live by ANS on its Facebook page (with commentary in three languages - Italian, English and Spanish) and on ANSChannel on YouTube where it will remain available for viewing online even at the end of the live broadcast.
Poland – A new work for Krakow Province 5
(ANS - Szczyrk) - On 5 June 2021 a new building for the Krakow Province (PLS) was inaugurated and blessed: "Dom Rekolekcyjno-Wypoczynkowy dla Młodzieży Górka" (Retreat and Recreation House for Youth), located in Szczyrk, in Southern Poland. Presenting it today is Fr Gabriel Stawowy, Economer of the PLS Province and the intitiative's principal Coordinator.
France – Evaluation and outreach meeting of "Don Bosco Action Sociale" network
(ANS - Lione) - Three years ago, during a meeting in Gradignan, the "Don Bosco Action Sociale" network (DBAS) was set up, designed to bring together in a single body all those associations active in the social sector that refer to the pedagogy of Don Bosco: the "Don Bosco" Institute of Gradignan, the "Valdocco" association that works in 12 sensitive neighborhoods, the AEPCR, engaged in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, the "Fondation du Bocage" in Chambéry, the AIFST in Caen ... In total, 16 associations decided to join the network for a total of 65 structures involved. Three years later, in Lyon, the network's second meeting, which made it possible to measure the progress made.
United States – Funding supports most vulnerable during pandemic with food and prevention measures
(ANS – New Rochelle) – When the global COVID-19 pandemic struck and countries began lockdowns, Salesian missionaries around the globe went into action ensuring that those who were impacted in their local communities had the food and hygiene supplies they needed. Missionaries also quickly began to shift how they worked with poor children and their families, including working to provide education online when possible. To aid these efforts, significant funding was needed.
