The "Generala"

The “Generala” was a prison for minors in Turin, which at Don Bosco's time had about ...

(ANS - Rome) - Seventy-five years ago, in the spring of 1948, the Salesians of Rome led the caravan of boys who from Via Marsala moved along Via Prenestina until they came to populate those courtyards and sheds that still today welcome, educate and give attention to hundreds of needy and at-risk minors. From that moment, the "Borgo dei Ragazzi di Don Bosco" was born, a small town in which the children and their growing needs were the focus of the attention and care of so many Salesians and people.

(ANS – Melbourne) – The Centenary Year (1923-2023) of the Salesians in Australia is full of meaningful events of gratitude, awareness and launching the charismatic future. The Salesians arrived in Australia, Fremantle (West Australia) on Friday, 30th March 1923 to work in education with the indigenous people in the Kimberley region (north-western area of Australia).

(ANS - Rome) - March 15 marks the anniversary of the death of St. Artemide Zatti: it is the first anniversary of his birth to Heaven after celebrating his canonization last Oct. 9, 2022. The chronicle of the Salesian boarding school in Viedma recalls that, according to custom, on March 15, 1951, in the morning the bell announced the flight to Heaven of Salesian coadjutor Br. Artemide Zatti, and reports these prophetic words, "One less brother at home and one more saint in Heaven."

(ANS – Vatican City) – Ten years have passed since 13 March 2013, the day Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected to the See of Peter. Pope Francis' pontificate has been marked by a passion for evangelisation and a constant journey to reform the Church to make her more missionary. A decade during which time has taken on two different dimensions: the progressive one, to initiate processes, and the circular one, to go out to meet others and return enriched in thought and heart.

(ANS - Genoa) - On the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Salesian presence in Genoa-Sampierdarena, a conference was held yesterday, 6 March 2023, in the Ligurian capital, entitled ‘Educating young people to generate the future. Winning alliances in the world of work.’ The theme was chosen to underline the role and importance of education and formation both in the professional sphere and in the human growth of new generations. As Fr. Sergio Pellini, Director of the 'Don Bosco' work of Genoa-Sampierdarena, pointed out, “we were not just interested in celebrating this anniversary, but also in leaving a sign of hope for young people within the context in which we operate, the city of Genoa.”

(ANS - Zabrze) - It is a beautiful Jubilee because it is still on, the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Salesian School of Zabrze, in the Province of Poland-Cracow (PLS), which in its program includes three main points: the Jubilee Gala Evening, the solemn anniversary Eucharist and the "Family Picnic."

  • Italy – A Salesian on the front line of the war in Ukraine: "Being close counts, words come later"

(ANS - Rome) - As he tells with a gentleness that does not seem to come from horror, he is "resting a little bit" in Rome these days. Fr Oleh Ladnyuk is a Ukrainian Salesian priest who is a military chaplain at the front, among the soldiers who fight in defence of their country and among the civilians who for over two years have seen their lives wiped out. He brings humanitarian aid where the missiles fall and from those places he helps with the evacuation of young people and adults - so far at least 500 people, but there are probably many more. These days the Salesian – who carries out his ministry in Dnipro and teaches History in a state school in the city – is in Rome to take part with two other priests and a dozen lay people from his country in the "Accompanying when Trauma Hits" course hosted by the Pontifical Salesian University in collaboration with the Faculty of Educational Sciences, with the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation and the Don Bosco Network. A project that aims to provide theoretical and methodological tools to deal with the traumas caused by war.
