"Fratelli Tutti" is the third encyclical of Pope Francis, after "Lumen Fidei" (2013) and "Laudato sì" (2015). It was signed in Assisi on 3 October 2020.
The title derives from an expression of St. Francis (Admonitions 6, 1), which the Saint used to invite men and women to live a life inspired by the Gospel.

(ANS - Vatican City) - "In a world sick with short-term thinking and little vision of the future, giving a voice to young people means starting to build bridges towards the future," said Sr. Alessandra Smerilli, religious of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), in her speech on Tuesday 27 October at the press conference for the presentation of the event "The Economy of Francesco - Pope Francis and young people from all over the world for the economy of tomorrow".

Rome, Italy - 20 October 2020 - The international meeting "Nobody is saved alone - Peace and Fraternity", promoted by the Community of Sant’Egidio, took place yesterday in Rome. Present at the meeting, summoned to implore the gift of peace, Pope Francis and representatives of all major religions: the patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, the chief rabbi of France, Haim Korsia, the general secretary of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (Islam), Mohamed Abdelsalam Abdellatif, the Buddhist Shoten Minegishi. Also present was the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella. Religions have stressed that no people can save themselves by themselves, especially in the face of the wounds of humanity and the Covid-19 pandemic, which has made peoples more fragile and poorer. Hence, the appeal to rulers around the world to be peacemakers, open to dialogue and always ready to support the needs of humanity.

(ANS - Rome) - After Lumen Fidei (2013) and Laudato Sì'(2015), last Saturday, October 3, Pope Francis delivered his third encyclical to the world, the second with a "social" theme and clearly inspired, right from the title, from the Poverello of Assisi, St Francis, from whom Pope Bergoglio also took his name. It is an encyclical with a broad, wide-ranging gaze, addressed not only to Catholics, but also to exponents of other religions, non-believers and people of good will.

"There are many martyrs today, they are more than the martyrs of the first centuries," said Pope Francis at the end of April this year in his catechesis dedicated to the Christian Beatitudes.

(ANS - Vatican City) - The "Season of Creation" is an annual ecumenical event held from 1 September to 4 October and aims to be a moment of prayer and action in favor of our "Common Home". The goal this year is to reconsider ecological, economic, social and political lifestyles. The theme chosen for 2020 is: “Jubilee for the Earth”.

  • Listening With Our Heart

Little John was watching the television and the sight of the African children being shown in utter poverty made him cry, and after sobbing in desperation he got up and pulled out a few slices of bread and went near the television and started pushing those slices in every small little hole on the back of the television. In his simplicity, he thought he was offering a little bread to those hungry children. The little boy expresses best what it means to listen with the heart.

The attentive gaze of a mother by the side of her child, and the slightest cry or movement of the child makes her respond immediately with a gentle touch or a caress, and this too is perhaps another example of what it means to listen with the heart. The mother feels what the child needs.

Listening with the heart is the experience of a noble, loving, compassionate person. Looking around, we see millions of people who suffer in silence every day. Everyone longs to be heard and listened to. But the raging fire and chaos, noise and humdrums have caused so much of deafness within, and we only listen to some sounds. We have lost the quality to empathize, to listen and to feel.

The call to listen with the ear of one’s heart, is the invitation of Pope Francis in light of the 56th World Communications Day, that is popularly celebrated on the Ascension Sunday every year. Are we really truly listening? Why do we struggle to listen? How can we listen with our heart? These can be some areas of introspection as we ponder on this theme of the World Communications Day – “Listening with the ear of the heart”.
