Lubin, Poland – April 2024 – The city of Lubin, which has three Salesian communities, hosted the "Oratory" event on the theme "A dream that becomes reality" which was attended by over two hundred young people from various presences of the Salesian Province of Poland-Wrocław (PLO). The Lubin Oratory event was organised by Fr Mikołaj Wyczalek, SDB, Delegate for Youth and Vocational Ministry in the PLO Province, and for the young participants it was a unique experience which will remain in their memory for a long time, as it allowed them to strengthen their faith, make new friends and experience the joy of being part of the Salesian Family.

Rzeszów, Poland - April 2024 – A meeting of young people from Salesian oratories in the Province of Krakow (PLS), called the "Oratoriada", took place from 5 to 7 April at the Salesian St Joseph parish in Rzeszów. For many of them, it was an opportunity to visit the "Capital of Innovation" for the first time and see the local Salesian Oratory. There was no lack of spiritual elements, such as the "Via Lucis" and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, or formative elements such as the conferences by Father Paweł and the Kościelniak couple, but above all a lot of fun. Saturday's "Oratoriada Party", sports competitions and urban game showed all the joy of the meeting during which the young people were also able to share with the inhabitants of the city during the Sunday procession, and then participate in Holy Mass. All this has certainly reinforced the enthusiasm in view of the upcoming "Savionalia", a youth celebration in the Krakow province which will take place from 10 to 12 May 2024.

Krakow, Poland – April 2024 - The Provincial Chapter of the Krakow Province (PLS) ended on 6 April. It was chaired by Fr Marcin Kaznowski, Superior of the PLS Province, and by Fr Andrzej Król, Moderator. The assembly, which began on 2 April, was attended by about 50 Salesians and some guests, including young people and members of the Salesian Family. An important part, as is the case for each Chapter, was the Superior's report on the status of the Province, with different information and statistics. Representation from young people, who are a reference point for the Salesians for the mission they carry out, was central. Responding to a questionnaire sent in advance, the young people drew attention to various important issues. The analysis of contemporary challenges also had to focus on the crisis of vocations, as well as on catechesis, and for the first time in a Chapter a reflection was made on the care of elderly confreres and those in need of assistance due to illness. One of the main tasks of this year's Provincial Chapter was to prepare a document that will be used for the preparatory work for the GC29 and for the delegates who will represent the PLS Province: Fr Dariusz Bartocha or his substitute Fr Adam Świta. At the end of the Chapter, the Superior of PLS, Fr Marcin Kaznowski, thanked all the participants.

Wrocław, Poland – April 2024 - A meeting of twenty-one Salesians in Poland's Wrocław Province (PLO) took place from 4 to 6 April 2024,, with the aim of discussing and planning Salesian activities in the coming months. During the days the participants looked for new ways to reach young people and new ways to involve them in the life of the Church; they stressed the importance of personal witness and authenticity in action, fundamental in building relationships with young people. The meeting in Wrocław was also an opportunity to pray together and reflect on the role of the Salesians in the Church today, highlighting their missionary and pastoral character. It was a moment of strengthening relations and unity among the Salesians. In summary, the meeting of the young Salesians was an important event that allowed a deep reflection and planning of future activities; a moment full of hope and optimism that will surely bear fruit in the future.

Augustów, Poland – April 2024 – The Salesian St Stanisław Kostka Province of Warsaw Poland (PLE), began its Provincial Chapter on the theme "Passionate about Jesus Christ and dedicated to Young People" on 2 April 2024. This is an extremely important event during which decisions will be made that will affect the functioning of the Warsaw Province for the next 4 years. The assembly is attended by Salesians, Salesian Cooperators and youth representatives and is chaired by the Provincial Fr Tadeusz Jarecki. During the days of the Provincial Chapter, which will conclude on 6 April, the participants discuss various topics: vision and common mission of the Province of Warsaw; pastoral priorities for the coming years; education and formation of Salesians; cooperation with young people; life and service in the community.

Krakow, Poland – April 2024 – The Provincial Chapter of the Krakow Salesian Province (PLS) began at the Salesian Seminary (WSDTS) on 2 April. It will conclude on Friday, 5 April. It is an opportunity to talk about common crosses and "resurrections", since both are part of the daily life of the Province. In addition to the main issues at the Chapter, which are the authentic life of the Salesian charism, collaboration with the laity in the evangelisation of young people and the reform of the Congregation's Government structures, Chapter members will address issues relevant to the PLS Province proposed in the motions sent by the communities. These include the care of vocations; solutions for the care of elderly and sick confreres; the future of Salesian schools; the future of presences in Ukraine; the prospect of the possible opening of new works; the future of initial formation in the context of the restructuring of formation houses in Europe; the updating of the Directory (in particular the articles concerning formation and the economy). The Provincial Chapter will also elect a delegate to the next General Chapter and his substitute. Special thanks go to theModerator of the Provincial Chapter Fr Andrzej Król, and to all the pre-Chapter Commissions for the preparatory work carried out.

  • Italy – A Salesian on the front line of the war in Ukraine: "Being close counts, words come later"

(ANS - Rome) - As he tells with a gentleness that does not seem to come from horror, he is "resting a little bit" in Rome these days. Fr Oleh Ladnyuk is a Ukrainian Salesian priest who is a military chaplain at the front, among the soldiers who fight in defence of their country and among the civilians who for over two years have seen their lives wiped out. He brings humanitarian aid where the missiles fall and from those places he helps with the evacuation of young people and adults - so far at least 500 people, but there are probably many more. These days the Salesian – who carries out his ministry in Dnipro and teaches History in a state school in the city – is in Rome to take part with two other priests and a dozen lay people from his country in the "Accompanying when Trauma Hits" course hosted by the Pontifical Salesian University in collaboration with the Faculty of Educational Sciences, with the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation and the Don Bosco Network. A project that aims to provide theoretical and methodological tools to deal with the traumas caused by war.
