Rome, Italy - May 2021 - Yesterday, Thursday 6 May, at the Church of San Domenico Savio in Rome, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, presided over the celebration during which eight Salesians made their perpetual profession: Charles Carl Enrico, Dias Aquino Mazarelo, Gaetan Alphonço Rabenasolo, Kim Hyung Seok Dominic Savio, Nzota Deusdedit Eliezer, Sebamalai Saram Sathiyathas, Sukkienik Krystian and Uwizeyimana Jean Claude. “Dear young confreres - the 10th Successor of Don Bosco told them - you offer your life to God to live it with true passion”.
(ANS - Vatican City) - On Wednesday 28 April, in the Marconi Hall of Vatican Radio, the press conference was held for the presentation of the "Christmas Contest", a music competition sponsored by the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE) and promoted by “Missioni Don Bosco” and the Pontifical Gravissimum Educationis Foundation. The initiative, in support of the charity project "Congo is the heart of Africa - help us make it beat", includes a singing competition aimed at young people aged between 16 and 35, called to propose an unpublished song on the Christmas theme, and to compete to perform, together with the great artists of Italian and international music, at the Christmas concert 2021 in the Vatican. The Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, also spoke at the press conference.
(ANS - Rome) - Yesterday, Sunday 25 April, the so-called "Feast Day of Thanks 2021" of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) took place towards its Superior General, Mother Yvonne Reungoat. The feast day saw the physical participation of Mother Reungoat and a fair number of her sisters at the "Mother Angela Vespa" House, seat of the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences "Auxilium", as well as the participation of many religious from all over the world via internet. For the occasion, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians and Father and Center of Unity of the Salesian Family, presided over the Eucharist.
The one that touches peoples’ lives and transforms them
My friends, readers of the Salesian Bulletin, I greet you again with all cordiality by means of this Salesian magazine founded by Don Bosco himself. It was his intention to use this bulletin to convey to the laity the reality of his young Salesian Congregation, which sought to be faithful to God as it was growing little by little. As we read in the 1877 issue, it "is published to give a report of things done or to be done according to the purpose of the Salesian mission, which is the care of souls and the good of civil society."
Nave, Italy - March 2021 - From 14 to 16 March the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, visited the Salesian community of the post-novitiate of Nave (Brescia). The Rector Major met with the formation community, the young Salesians, the formation team and the Dean of the Study Center. He encouraged the community to put the charismatic identity at the center of formation, personalizing formation paths and giving great importance to the formation of the heart, "a heart that beats in unison for God and for the young". The evening was enlivened by a moment of celebration where the young Salesians presented the house in Nave from its foundation in 1938 to the present day. During his visit, the Rector Major was accompanied by the Councilor for the Mediterranean Region, Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, and by Fr Francisco Santos Montero, a member of the Department for Formation.
(ANS - Turin) - On Tuesday afternoon, March 16, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, visited the Don Bosco International Institute of Turin-Crocetta's formation community. The invitation addressed by the Director of the Community, Fr Marek Chrzan, to the Rector Major to visit the community of specific formation for the priesthood was aimed at offering him a better knowledge of this formation house in view of the rethink as regards Formation of the Congregation in Europe.
Bolivia - A life at the service of the “Kameños”: interview with Fr Miguel Ángel Aimar Bruno
(ANS - Cochabamba) - Fr Miguel Angel Aimar Bruno, a Salesian, has been a missionary in Bolivia for 44 years. Born in 1945 in Busca, in the province of Cuneo, to an Argentine father and an Italian mother, he was ordained a priest on 28 June 1975 and is currently part of the Salesian Community of Kami (Cochabamba). Since arriving in Bolivia, he has dedicated his life in the service of the "Kameños".
Brazil – "UniSALESIANO" promotes 1st International Congress on Education Technology
(ANS - Araçatuba) - The "UniSALESIANO" Salesian Catholic University Center, belonging to the Brazil-Campo Grande Province (BCG) and with offices in Araçatuba and Lins, has organized its 1st International Congress on Educational Technology (ISCED) from 13 to 15 October. The goal of the event, which will take place digitally and which features over 90 conferences, is to offer interesting reflections and ideas for a truly transforming and enriching education, and which are of interest to those who always want to stay up to date in the latest technology and trends.
Colombia – Cali: Former child soldiers wear Don Bosco's "uniform"
(ANS - Cali) – Colombia’s guerrilla warfare began in 1952 and has caused over 300,000 deaths, while at the same time fueling the growth of powerful drug cartels. At the “Don Bosco Center” in Cali, however, young people who have known nothing but guerrillas and guerilla warfare are welcomed and accompanied on their path towards rehabilitation.
