Madrid, Spain - July 2020 – Taking place on Friday 24 July, in the presence of the Provincial of the “Spain-St James the Greater” Province (SSM), Fr Fernando García Sánchez (in the center of the photo), was the installation of the new director of the Missions Office of Madrid, "Misiones Salesianas", Fr Eusebio Muñoz (left), who took over from Fr José Antonio San Martín (right). Fr San Martín has been Director of the Missions Office for 6 years, while Fr Muñoz was Delegate of the Rector Major for the Salesian Family for the past six-year term.

(ANS - Madrid) - The "Training Plan for the development of online skills" coordinated by the Salesian Province "Spain-St James Major" (SSM) turned out to be a very interesting offer for educational centers. In the months of confinement, it was seen how teachers multiplied their online work with the students. For this reason, the request for this training path has arisen from the same school environments as an opportunity to bring order between what has been learned in these past months and to strengthen and acquire better digital skills.

(ANS - Bilbao) - Several television news and photos in the press have shown teachers teaching with masks and taking temperatures at the entrance to the Centers. This week, some vocational training and B.A. courses have started again to close the year with face-to-face lessons. "Certainly, participation in these conditions was better than we expected. We are all eager to recover our habits," says Josean Prol, Director of the Salesian center in Deusto, Bilbao.

(ANS - Madrid) - Millions of people around the world are affected by an unprecedented health, economic and social crisis, which challenges us to do our best and to work together to face and deal with this situation. The confinement measures that have been adopted and that remain in place in many countries of the world, necessary to guarantee the health of the population, imply extreme difficulties for the most vulnerable population. For those who have less, having to stay at home causes many difficulties – food, for one. Millions of people in many parts of the world have to set off on their daily trek, even in times of quarantine, because they have to look for and earn their day's meal.

Madrid, Spain - May 2020 - The coronavirus pandemic has taken away an important group of Don Bosco Salesians from the Provinces of Spain, Italy, and many other countries. Yesterday,
Thursday 7 May, at 7 pm, the Holy Mass was broadcast "to join our brothers ... and to remember the Salesians who left for the Father's House". The celebration was presided over by Fr Fernando García, SSM Provincial, in the presence of Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, Councilor for the Mediterranean Region, and other Salesians.

Madrid, Spain - April 2020 - On 16 April the inauguration ceremony of Fr Fernando García as the new Provincial of the Salesian Province "St James Major" (SSM) took place. The celebration was chaired by Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, former SSM Provincial, and current Councilor for the Mediterranean Region. Fr Fernando García was born in Madrid in 1974, was until now a member of the Provincial Council and Coordinator of the Salesian Schools of the SSM Province. He made his first religious profession in Arévalo on August 16, 1993, and was ordained a priest in Madrid - Paseo de Extremadura on June 19, 2004. The new Provincial graduated in Philosophy and Letters from the Pontifical University of Salamanca and achieved a Baccalaureate in Theology at the Salesian Pontifical University of Rome, where he also did Youth Ministry studies.

  • Italy – A Salesian on the front line of the war in Ukraine: "Being close counts, words come later"

(ANS - Rome) - As he tells with a gentleness that does not seem to come from horror, he is "resting a little bit" in Rome these days. Fr Oleh Ladnyuk is a Ukrainian Salesian priest who is a military chaplain at the front, among the soldiers who fight in defence of their country and among the civilians who for over two years have seen their lives wiped out. He brings humanitarian aid where the missiles fall and from those places he helps with the evacuation of young people and adults - so far at least 500 people, but there are probably many more. These days the Salesian – who carries out his ministry in Dnipro and teaches History in a state school in the city – is in Rome to take part with two other priests and a dozen lay people from his country in the "Accompanying when Trauma Hits" course hosted by the Pontifical Salesian University in collaboration with the Faculty of Educational Sciences, with the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation and the Don Bosco Network. A project that aims to provide theoretical and methodological tools to deal with the traumas caused by war.

  • Latin America – Strengthening Vocational and Educational Commitment Today: 30 Years of the Salesian School in Latin America

(ANS) – Since the first meeting in Cumbayá (Ecuador), 30 years ago, educational processes on the continent have found a collaborative epicentre which has given rise to the Salesian School in (Latin) America  – ESA, in Spanish – as a forum for reflection and a common path. Many Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and other groups of the Salesian Family (SF) have enriched this synodal journey, focusing on young people and their integral development.  What are today's demands of us in the educational field? How are we building the Salesian School of the future? Can we further strengthen this great Salesian educational network in America? Some FMAs and Salesians who were at the first meeting in 1994, share their experience and their vision of how this journey has allowed a growth in the understanding of the youth reality, in the strategic decisions within the Provinces themselves and in the challenges that emerge for Salesian education.
