Statistics of the Catholic Church 2020

On the occasion of the 94th World Mission Sunday, the Fides News Agency presented some statistics that offer an overview of the Church in the world. The data is taken from the latest "Statistical Yearbook of the Church", updated as of 31 December 2018.

As of 31 December 2018 it appears that:
- the number of Catholics amounted to 1,328,993,000 people with an overall increase of 15,716,000 people compared to the previous year;
- the total number of Bishops in the world has decreased by 12;
- the total number of priests in the world decreased by 517 compared to the previous year;
- lay missionaries in the world increased by 20,388.

In the field of education and formation, the Church manages worldwide:
- 73,164 nursery schools;
- 103,146 primary schools;
- 49,541 secondary schools.
- It also follows 2,251,600 high school pupils and 3,707,559 university students.
