The Salesians in Africa

The Salesian presence in Africa is enriched, a continent in continuous growth, in which the Salesians have been present since 1891.

With the 3 new Provinces - erected on 19 January 2021 by the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the favorable opinion of the General Council - the number of Provinces present in the Africa-Madagascar Region increases.

The three new Provinces are:

“Blessed Artemide Zatti” of Africa Nigeria and Niger (ANN);
“Our Lady of Peace” of North West Africa (AON);
South West Africa Province (AOS), dedicated to “Saint Joseph”.

In the Region there are also:

9 Vice Provinces;
1666 Confreres;
140 Novices;
6 Bishops.
