World Watch List 2022: one Christian in seven suffers persecution

The World Watch List 2022, the annual report of the Porte Aperte - Open Doors organization, which documents the situation of persecuted Christians in the world, was published a few days ago.

In about 100 countries, persecution has increased in absolute terms and Christians killed for reasons related to their faith, between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, exceed 5,800, about 23% more than the previous year's figures.

Still considering the time period, between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, the persecution figures are as follows:

  • Christians persecuted worldwide: more than 360 million
  • Christians killed: 5,898
  • Churches and related buildings attacked or closed: 5,110
  • Christians arrested without trial, imprisoned: 6,175
  • Christians kidnapped: 3,829
