"Sacred History": the book on religion that Don Bosco made for young people

In 1847 Don Bosco published his book " Storia Sacra - Sacred History". When he realized that there were no religious books suitable for children, he set to work with great enthusiasm.

The book was published in the Speirani & Ferrero printing house, a modest publisher near the Church of San Rocco in Turin.

Don Bosco personally curated the edition, collecting drafts, correcting paragraphs and also adjusting the 50+ illustrations inside the book.

The work presented the main biblical characters: Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Samson and many others. The "mission" entrusted to this work by Don Bosco was to propose the values of the biblical characters and offer them models of life to young people.

Subsequent editions were produced over a period of more than one hundred years, the last edition dated 1956.
