Some statistics of the Catholic Church in Kazakhstan

Pope Francis' 38th Apostolic Journey began today: three days in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, in the heart of Asia to participate in the Congress of Heads of World and Traditional Religions.

On the occasion of this new Journey, the Holy See Press Office published some statistical data on the situation of the Catholic Church in Kazakhstan, as of December 31, 2020.

In Kazakhstan, where the Catholic community is less than 1 percent of the population, there are:

  • 104 priests (78 diocesan priests and 26 religious priests);
  • 6 bishops;
  • 133 professed religious women;
  • 50 catechists;
  • 81 parishes;
  • 5 educational centers owned and/or directed by clergy or religious, including 3 kindergartens and elementary school, 1 middle school and 1 high school.
