Peace, only without weapons. On "Cagliero11" a forum on nonviolence

The April issue of the Missionary Bulletin Cagliero11 featured a forum on nonviolence, a topic to which Pope Francis' monthly prayer intention entrusted to the entire Catholic Church is also dedicated.

Sixty years after the encyclical "Pacem in Terris," Pope Francis makes John XXIII's words his own and invites the Church to pray for "the spread of peace and nonviolence, by decreasing the use of weapons by States and citizens."

However, as reported by the Cagliero11, based on estimates provided by controlarms.org:

  • 8 million small arms are produced each year;
  • 2 bullets are produced annually for every person on the planet;
  • 2 out of every 3 people killed by gun violence die in countries "at peace."
  • For every person killed by gun violence, 10 people are injured.

Only without weapons then, as Pope Francis reminds us, can there be peace.
