My experience at DBCR has been absolutely amazing. My experience at DBCR has helped me with my future goals by giving me the opportunity to work in a business development field.
Which job sponsors have you worked with, and where have you been placed this year? How have those jobs prepared you for your future career?
Throughout my two years at DBCR I have worked with two sponsors. I have worked with Don Bosco Cristo Rey as a principal’s assistant and at THEARC as a fundraiser development coordinator intern. Working as a principal’s assistant and an intern has helped me learn the logistics of developing a non-profit company, and office management.
How have DBCR’s four pillars of faith, family, future, and fun helped you outside DBCR?
DBCR’s four pillars, faith, family, future, and fun have helped me to become a more well-rounded person outside of school with emotional and spiritual maturity.
Which extracurricular activities are you involved in at school?
At school I am currently involved in multiple extracurricular activities, such as the African Student Association, step team, and volleyball, and I am also a student ambassador.
What are your goals after graduation?
My first goal after graduation is to begin my freshman year at Spellman College with a major in social work or psychology. I plan to pursue a Masters in Science followed by a Doctorate in a social science field. My next goal is to open my private practice in social work to help adolescents in high-risk families, and communities.
Don Bosco Cristo Rey opened in 2007 for at-risk students in the Washington metropolitan areas led by founding President, Fr. Steve Shafran SDB of the New Rochelle, New York Province.
It has a unique feature, the Corporate Work Study Programme where the students work five full days each month in entry-level clerical jobs throughout the area. These jobs support their education and provide important skills. The goal is for these students to succeed through College.
