17 April 2020

Campo Grande, Brazil - April 2020 - The "Dom Bosco" Catholic University (UCDB), through the team of the Biotechnology laboratory (Sinova Biotec), participates in the research testing various bio-inspired proteins created using algorithms of the University of Pennsylvania, USA, to discover a drug capable of fighting Covid-19. According to Professor Octávio Luiz Franco, head of the project in Campo Grande, the work comes from bio-inspired compounds, initially from natural sources (wasp, snake poisons, etc.), which have been redesigned with the use of algorithms. "After the synthesis, we will start testing to try and fight the new coronavirus," he explains. In addition to researchers from UCDB and the USA, the research brings together scientists from Brasilia, India and Portugal.
