Bolivia - Being a missionary on the radio and in social networks

17 September 2020

Independencia, Bolivia - September 2020 - Eight young radio presenters of the “Domingo Savio” Radio, of the Salesian missionary community of Independencia-Cochabamba, participated in a seminar on the theme “Radio and evangelization in social networks”. The event, promoted by the Social Communication Office (SC) of the Salesian Province of Bolivia (BOL), took place from 9 to 11 September with the aim of promoting evangelization through youth radio programs and social networks. The initiative is part of a plan coordinated by Fr Sabino Mendoza, Provincial Delegate for the Missions, Fr René Marca, Provincial Delegate of SC, and Fr Julian Tayandi, director of the "Domingo Savio" radio. Independencia is a town and capital of the Ayopaya province, Cochabamba department, located on the Eastern Cordillera at 2,633 meters above sea level. The pandemic has led the various communities to rethink their pastoral, communicative and missionary services. “We must adapt our evangelization service to the new reality and use all the necessary means to stay close to the young. In this case, we use the radio because the Internet here and in other missionary areas is very expensive and unstable,” said Fr Mendoza.
