RMG - Missionary dispatch of Sisters of Charity of Jesus

26 March 2021

Rome, RMG - March 2021 - Yesterday, Thursday 25 March, Mo. Teresia Furuki, Mother General of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus (SCG), handed the Missionary Cross to the three missionaries - from Japan, Korea and Brazil - leaving for Uganda and South Sudan. Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councilor for the Missions, was invited to celebrate the Eucharist. During the homily he presented ten recommendations drawn from the writings to the missionaries of Fr Vincenzo Cimatti. The Sisters of Charity animate two presences in Sudan: the first opened in 2011 in Juba and the second in Gumbo. The parish was entrusted to the Salesians in 2006. In response to the Salesians' request, the Sisters also agreed to administer the clinic, which today has an average of 100 patients a day. In Uganda, the sisters have opened a new presence in Gulu: a formation house, with a group of aspirants and 2 postulants. The three new communities in Africa are under the SCG Generalate. The Sisters of Charity of Jesus were founded by Fr Antonio Cavoli and Fr Vincenzo Cimatti in Miyazaki, Japan, in 1937. They are part of the Salesian Family and today have 930 sisters who work in 16 countries.
