Mindelo, Cape Verde - April 2021 - From 4 to 9 April Fr Gildasio Mendes, General Councilor for Social Communication, visited the Salesian house of “São Vicente”, in the city of Mindelo, where he met the educative-pastoral community. The trip is part of the Extraordinary Visit to the Salesian Province of "Santo António de Lisboa", which includes the presence of Portugal and Cape Verde. Accompanied by Fr Luís Peralta, Director of the community, the General Councilor held various meetings with young people and leaders of all areas of the Salesian presence, underlining the need to continue a greater dialogue between the Gospel and Culture. Then he pointed out that the Salesian Congregation has followed a post-chapter process of reflection and it is necessary that all its members let themselves be guided by the Spirit to face together what is happening in the world; and he also remarked that it is necessary to promote a culture of encounter, taking care of the disadvantaged. On 6 and 7 April, Fr Mendes visited the "Don Bosco" Oratory, in the locality of Eito, on the island of Santo Antão, where he participated in a cultural moment and presided at the Eucharist with over 100 children and young people with their families, in compliance with the health measures in force. Finally, Fr Mendes recalled: "God loves us immensely, He does not abandon us, He is always ready to give His life to save us".
