Americana, Brazil - July 2021 - The Don Bosco Salesian Boarding School in Americana has developed a project for the preservation of stingless bees and the creation of meliponari (collection of hives). The proposal was born from the observation of local nature and the perception of disappeared swarms. People noticed that at the Salesian Boarding School stingless bees make their hives on pillars, walls, pipes and electricity panels. With the discovery that the urban hive is efficient in preserving the species, sector studies began. Two students, who already do stingless bee farming, accompanied by their mothers, brought some species of bees, Jataí and Mandaçaia, to the Salesian College. The meeting provided an exchange of learning and awareness on the preservation of bees. The project was registered on the "Criativos da Escola" site, a program of the "Alana Institute" that is part of the global movement "Design for Change", established in India and present in 65 countries that inspires more than 2.2 million children and adolescents around the world.
