Samoa - Community Sewing Program

30 July 2021

Alafua, Samoa - July 2021 - In order to promote the sustainability of the institute, since last year the "Don Bosco" Technical Center (DBTC, in English) in Alafua has started new courses with which students can specialize in certain professions. Among these is sewing, thanks to which girls and boys can make clothing. Given the success of the course, the DBTC school managers, in collaboration with the sewing teacher, Mrs. Tasileta Tagiilima, have decided to extend the course also to members of the local community, especially women, to also increase their skills and generate income. In the second half of 2020, the first course was organized after school hours, with a large number of participants. Then two more 10-week courses were organized simultaneously, which have just concluded, and 40 more women have already signed up for the next one.
