Papua New Guinea - Congress of Salesian Educators

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - September 2021 - "Don Bosco Technological Institute" in Boroko, held the first Congress of Salesian Educators on the theme Don Bosco Educational System from 23 to 25 September in the Vice Province of Papua New Guinea and Islands Solomon (PGS). About 200 people took part in the meeting, which included Salesian educators, priests, men and women religious and laity. After the opening Mass, the Congress began with sessions on the role, structure and objectives of the Salesian Educational System. The following day the activities included two sessions on Catholic education, held by Rt. Rev. Pedro Baquero, SDB, Bishop in charge of Education at the Catholic Episcopal Conference of Papua New Guinea. Then Dr. Uke Kombra, Secretary for Education, discussed the new basic education system in the country, while Dr. Francis Hualupmoni, Secretary of the Department for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST), spoke on the subject of higher education. The congress concluded with a mass presided by Fr Gregorio Bicomong, PGS Provincial.
