Kolkata, India - November 2021 - The recently established Salesian mission in the Kalimpong Hills, located about 1,600 meters above sea level, celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King and organized an Eucharistic procession on Sunday, November 21. Fr George Thadathil, Rector and Principal of the Salesian Institute of Siliguri, officiated at the Eucharist in the church of St. Alphonsa Samthar with Fr CM Paul, Vice Principal, Fr Savio Rai, head of the Mission, and Fr Michael Beng, Assistant Parish Priest. The celebration was attended by 150 faithful belonging to about 67 Catholic families from 6 villages. The mission in the hills of Kalimpong began in 2017 and its facilities such as the Salesian residence and the English-language "Don Bosco" middle school etc., are housed in rented facilities. The mission in Samthar constitutes the sixth missionary parish in the Diocese of Darjeeling-Sikkim. Currently, this village is becoming increasingly popular with foreign tourists, who on clear days can admire Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak.
