Spain - 13 young Italians perform community service in SMX Province projects
Spain - January 2022 - In June 2021 a group of 13 young Italians arrived in the Province of Spain "Mary Help of Christians" (SMX) to carry out their year of Community Service abroad. The young people work in the Salesian communities: Fundación Don Bosco (Jaén), Fundación Don Bosco (Córdoba), Sagrado Corazón (Antequera), San Rafael (San José del Valle). The Community Service is a program of the Italian government that has its roots in the old social support or community service as a substitute for compulsory military service. Today, the goal of the project is for young Italians between the ages of 18 and 28 to voluntarily choose to devote a year of their lives to work on a social, educational or cultural project in their own country or abroad. In December, the 13 young Italians received a visit from the President of the Salesians for Social Work (SCS), Fr Francesco Preite, SDB, with the volunteer leaders, for two days of accompaniment and formation.
