Brazil - 25 Xavante Indians received Sacrament of Confirmation

Sangradouro, Brazil - May 2022 - The Bishop of the Diocese of Barra de Garças, Msgr. Protógenes José Luft, traveled to the indigenous mission of Sangradouro, in the municipality of General Carneiro (MT), on May 14 to impart the Sacrament of Confirmation to 25 indigenous Xavante Indians. The ceremony was concelebrated by Fr. José Benito Gonzalez, SDB, Salesian community rector, and Fr. Juan Carlos Ingunza Uscola, SDB, pastor of the "São José" church. On the occasion, Msgr. Luft gave a Rosary to the newly confirmed. Catechetical preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation had begun last March and was carried out by two catechists accompanied by the pastor. The "São José" parish in Sangradouro, canonically erected more than 100 years ago, has 65 communities with about 3,900 indigenous Xavante ethnic people.
