Sannerz, Germany – June 2022 - During a festive outdoor service on the grounds of the Don Bosco Centre of Youth Services in Sannerz (Germany) on Sunday, Josua Schwab (32) and Guélord Mudingunzu (33) made their perpetual profession as Salesians of Don Bosco before their Provincial Fr Reinhard Gesing. In his solemn sermon, Fr Reinhard Gesing described the perpetual profession as a great day of celebration for the entire Salesian family and for the Church: “The two confreres want to follow the call of Jesus, they have tested themselves and now declare their willingness to be sent as ambassadors of Jesus,” Gesing continued. Like the founder of their order, the Turin youth apostle John Bosco (1815-1888), the two now want to help young people in need.

About 180 guests, including confreres from the entire German Province, family, co-workers, friends and companions, came to celebrate together with the Perpetually Professed. The Don Bosco Band, young people and staff from the Don Bosco Centre of Youth Services provided the musical accompaniment to the service.

“Since my First Profession in 2016, I have experienced again and again how much the Salesian vocation fulfils me. For me, it is a path that makes the Gospel concrete, today, in the midst of the world. In the past years, I have mainly worked with young people from different precarious contexts, in residential youth care as a social worker and on the street in the hotspot neighbourhood as a street educator. Above all, it was the young people who encouraged me to continue on this path”, said Josua Schwab, confirming his decision to make a lifelong commitment to the Order with his perpetual profession.

After his perpetual profession, the theologian and social pedagogue will continue to work as a group leader in the Don Bosco Centre of Youth Services in Sannerz and, after his ordination as a deacon in October, he will prepare for his priestly ordination in the summer of 2023.

Since September 2019, Guélord Mudingunzu, who was born in Kikwit in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has belonged to the German Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco and is currently completing his theology studies at the Istituto Internazionale Don Bosco in Turin (Crocetta, Italy). His goal: to follow his vocation and go to Istanbul (Turkey) as a missionary. Since 2017, the Salesian institution there has been part of the German Province. “My decision to become a missionary is strongly influenced by the life testimonies of other Salesian missionaries I have met in my work. Jesus says: There is no greater love than when one lays down his life for his friends (John 15:13). This sentence guides me: I too want to lay down my life for others," explains Mudingunzu.
