Italy - Retreat in Assisi for members of missionary pastoral course

08 November 2022

Assisi, Italy - November 2022 - After a two-year suspension due to the pandemic, the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome and the Sector for Missions of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) have organized the 24th Permanent Formation Course in Missionary Pastoral Care, which opened on Oct. 4 and will end next Dec. 9. Twenty-six members of the Salesian Family (8 SDB, 15 FMA, 2 Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians - MSMHC - and one lay person), who come from various missionary experiences or are preparing to live them, are participating in this course. After an intense month of teachings given by distinguished lecturers, the 26 course participants had a special spiritual experience: a three-day retreat in Assisi. They visited the places of St. Francis and St. Clare and were invited to make an inner journey in three stages: making memory (rediscovering the roots of one's vocation); unlearning in order to learn (purifying oneself from self-referential tendencies in order to welcome God's dream about each one); and revisiting the source (allowing the Lord to lead beyond oneself in order to rediscover missionary momentum). After these three days, the 26 participants returned to Rome to resume formation, with great gratitude to the Lord and a renewed sense of responsibility.
