Portugal - Salesian Missionary Forum "The First Proclamation - How to communicate Christ today"

29 November 2022

Estoril, Portugal - November 2022 - The Missionary Animation Team of the Salesian Province of Portugal (POR) organized the Salesian Missionary Forum on the theme: "The First Proclamation - How to Communicate Christ Today." The forum, to reflect on the theme and the use of appropriate tools and resources, took place on November 18. Salesians, managers, and collaborators of the communication, pastoral, and missions areas of various Salesian presences in the POR Province took part, including Cape Verde, Funchal, and Mirandela who participated in the meeting via videoconference. The event began with a message presentation from Fr. Alfred Maravilla, General Councilor for Missions, who stressed the importance of reaching young people through these means. "This is a very big challenge. We know that our young people are always connected. And it is we who must be there to proclaim Christ. Not so much with explicit words, but above all in a way that allows the first proclamation, through images, videos, and other resources." Then Fr. Maravilla exhorted the participants, "I ask you to take this challenge seriously because this is an immense, open field with so many young people attentive to the word of the Salesians to get to know Jesus with their help." The meeting was opened by Fr. José Aníbal Mendonça, POR Provincial. In the various interventions, a few examples of projects that create synergies between missionary animation and social communication were presented.
