Argentina - Vulnerable youth, adolescents and teens participate in Don Bosco Oratory Summer Camp in Santiago del Estero

23 January 2023

Santiago del Estero, Argentina - January 2023 - A Summer Camp has been held at the Salesian Don Bosco Oratory in Santiago del Estero for nearly 20 years. Since January 18, about 500 boys and girls, adolescents, and young people from the area’s vulnerable neighborhoods and backgrounds have been benefiting from this free proposal that aims to be a playful, educational and pastoral space, which ends on January 31 with the Feast Day of St. John Bosco. About 20 animators from the local Salesian Youth Movement participate in the planning and organization of the camp, along with young volunteers from other Salesian works in the Province of North Argentina (ARN). They fulfill their Salesian Missionary Volunteer experience in the community in what are intense days of service and dedication. This year, the mottos that guide the animators and are experienced through games and sports in the playground and workshops are "The best of me, to share," for the work with boys and girls in the morning; and "The joy of meeting again" for the afternoon activities with adolescents and youth. This proposal, which is very important for the Salesian work in Santiago del Estero, makes it possible to offer even young people with fewer resources the opportunity to experience vacations in an atmosphere of joy and formation, and to know and experience the youth spirituality and charism proper to the Salesian Family.
