D.R. Congo - 12 people reunited with their families after care at "Don Bosco Ngangi"

16 February 2023

Goma, D.R. Congo - February 2023 - Ten women and two men, aged 62 to 86, displaced by the war and who have been housed for several months in the Salesian house "Don Bosco Ngangi," were able to be reunited with their families. They arrived at the Salesian work on 8 November 2022 from the Kanyaruchinya refugee camp, north of the city of Goma. They were housed in the Salesian work, the large multipurpose hall, and the young welders' apprenticeship workshop, and were cared for psychologically, morally, physically, and health-wise. When it became possible to reunite these people with their families, Salesian coadjutor Br. Augustin Mupoyi, Economer of "Don Bosco Ngangi," handed them a kit consisting of food items (rice, cornmeal, beans, etc.), and basic necessities (cooking utensils, water supply, tarpaulin, blanket, tent, mattress, mosquito net, etc.). The beneficiaries warmly thanked the Salesians for their hospitality and charity during their most fragile period. These people can now live with their families in one of the IDP camps around Goma. The Salesian work is assisting thousands of displaced people from the "Don Bosco Ngangi" camp thanks to donations from the emergency coordination "Mission Don Bosco-VIS," chaired by Fr. Carlos Kabumba Balezi, SDB, Economer of the AFC-EST Delegation.
