20 February 2023

Montevideo, Uruguay - February 2023 - Animated by the motto "Celebrating vocational life and shared mission together," the Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Province of Uruguay (URU) was held from February 7 to 10. 70 people including Chapter Salesians attended the assembly, and for the first time, lay people and young people belonging to the various Salesian works. The dynamics of the Chapter contemplated different sessions for personal, group, and plenary work that aimed to foster exchange and consensus building through serious discernment. The Chapter began with the presentation of the dynamics of the four days of work by the Regulator, Fr. Sebastián Ferreyra. Fr. Alfonso Bauer, URU Provincial, presented the Report on the State of the Province, prepared with input from the report of Fr. Gabriel Romero, Councilor for the America South Cone Region, after his recent Extraordinary Visitation to the Province, and contributions from Salesians and members of the teams in charge of the various Provincial ministries. The second session of the Chapter was devoted to personal, group, and plenary work on the essential elements of the "2027 Uruguay Salesian Project," especially its identity and purpose. The third session was devoted to working on the axes of vocational life, ecological paradigm, and charismatic identity. Then the themes indicated as priorities in the Pre-Chapter Assembly were explored and discussed: synodality, networking, the economy of communion, healthy bonds, youth leadership, option for the poorest, evangelization, shared mission, and the Salesian sacrament of presence. The groups were asked for guidelines for the formation, animation, and management of each of these themes, which were shared in plenary. Finally, they worked on agreements with respect to identity and purpose.
