Ecuador - Communication Week for Salesian Postnovitiate Community "St. Francis of Assisi"

24 February 2023

Quito, Ecuador - February 2023 - From February 13 to 17, the Salesian Communications Office (OSC) organized the Communication Week for the International Community of the Salesian Postnovitiate "St. Francis of Assisi." Thirteen young people from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia participated, receiving training on Salesian documents and current issues related to cross-media storytelling, new formats and innovation in digital native media, the digital courtyard and interaction with today's youth, and audiovisual storytelling. The initial day addressed the Salesian dimension of social communication with the participation of Tatiana Capelo, Delegate for Social Communication of the Salesian Province of Ecuador.

The writings of Don Bosco and the documents of the Salesian Congregation to encourage and strengthen this area of the Salesian mission were explored. There was the participation of professors from the Faculty of Social Communication of the Salesian Polytechnic University, who shared theoretical and practical criteria for the exercise of communication in current contexts. Within the proposed methodology, in the afternoons they worked on the use of programs and digital tools to generate proposals with greater impact for young people. Practical work allowed the knowledge acquired to be put into practice and to build products designed for the recipients of the apostolate carried out by each of the postnovices. During the week there was a visit to the Don Bosco Printworks in La Kennedy. The activities concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist and the presentation of a narrative produced by the young people themselves. These training courses are part of the animation activities promoted by the Sector for Social Communication with the aim of forming communicators of the Word of God and the Gospel as Don Bosco was.
