Kansebula, R.D. Congo - March 2023 - The Salesian Cooperators of the Kafubu Valley had in the recent past suspended their monthly meetings and formation due to the pandemic and the departure of their Delegate. When they learned that a new Delegate, Fr. Piero Gavioli, SDB, had been appointed, as soon as he arrived at the Kansebula postnovitiate they called a meeting to welcome him and plan activities. Twenty or so Salesian Cooperators and aspirants responded to the invitation, including several who came on foot from distant countries, walking for two hours in the sun. The vast majority are farmers, active members of the small Christian communities in their villages, where priests arrive only occasionally. Given the circumstances and distances, few are those who have made the pledge as SSCC members and religious marriage. Participants have committed to resume meetings once a month, to do formation to prepare for the promise and especially the sacrament of marriage.
