17 March 2023

Mataelpino, Spain - March 2023 – On 11 and 12 March, the Salesian house in Mataelpino, in the Community of Madrid, hosted the third in-person training meeting of the Short-term Salesian Missionary Volunteers (VMS). On the occasion, the 29 people from the "St. James Major" (SSM) Province who are participating in the aforementioned course of Madrid's "Misiones Salesianas" volunteer program also learned about their destinations. Eleven Salesian works in America and Africa will welcome the volunteers, who will travel in pairs to help and support each other. Training, prayer and entertainment marked the days in a Salesian atmosphere of joy, Christian celebration and sharing. The 29 people from 10 cities in the SSM Province were not all from Salesian backgrounds, but there were also professionals who approached Salesian spirituality for the first time and were fascinated by it. This training session covered the following topics: the general framework of Youth Ministry, the Salesian Pastoral Educational Project at the practical level, Health Prevention, travel arrangements, practical advice, in-depth study of the Law of Volunteering, and Protection of Minors and Youth at the international level. The meeting was organized by the Missionary Animation and Volunteer group of the SSM Province, coordinated by Fr. José Carlos Sobejano, together with the head of Volunteering of "Misiones Salesianas," Alejandro Vásquez, and five people from the team.
